Diana Jean Schroeder Lien was born on October 21, 1944 in Lexington, Nebraska to Donald and Lurlie Schroeder. She was baptized on December 3, 1944 at St. John Lutheran Church in Buhl, Idaho and later confirmed in her faith on April 26, 1959.
Diana grew up in Buhl, Idaho where she attended school and graduated from Buhl High School in 1963. Following her graduation, she went on to purse her calling – attending nursing school at Emanuel Hospital in Portland, Oregon from 1963 to 1966.
On November 25, 1966 Diana married Dennis Christian Lien in Buhl, Idaho. Following their wedding, they made their first home in Arlington, Oregon where Dennis served as an Oregon State Police officer. Diana continued her nursing career, driving to and from Hermiston, Oregon during their time in Arlington. The couple welcomed their first child, Donald Lien, before relocating to Ontario, Oregon in 1970. There, they welcomed two more children, Douglas Lien and DeAnn Lien.
In 1978, Diana and her family moved to Salem, Oregon where she continued her nursing career at Salem Hospital. Diana spent the majority of her career working in the day surgery and recovery units, where she was known for her professionalism, compassion and dedication to patient care. She was highly respected by her colleagues and those she cared for. After nearly 40 years in nursing, Diana retired to focus on what brought her great joy- being a grandmother to her six grandchildren.
Throughout her life she was an active member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Buhl, Idaho, Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Ontario, Oregon, and Redeemer Lutheran church in Salem, Oregon. She served as a Sunday school teacher, board member, and mentor to other families in these churches.
Diana was preceded in death by her parents Donald and Lurlie Schroeder; her husband Dennis Lien; and her older sister Donna Iverson.
She is survived by her sister, Charolette (Deward) Einfalt; her children Donald (Angie) Lien, Douglas (Lori) Lien, and DeAnn Lien; her grandchildren Meghan (Jacob), Hannah (Austin), Jayce (Lauren), Eli (Nathan), Cammie (Chase), and Noah; her great-grandson Jordan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Diana Jean Schroeder Lien will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, and her legacy of care, devotion, strong faith, and quiet strength will live on through her family, friends, and the many lives she touched. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
