Diane Armpriest passed away on March 25, 2023. She was born January 10, 1950, in Salem Oregon. Her life was cut short due to endometrial cancer – otherwise she had a strong constitution and could have lived to be 100.
Diane had a keen intellect, and was an ardent student and life-long learner, earning degrees from the University of Oregon in Geography, Landscape Architecture, and Architecture.
Diane retired from the University of Idaho (U of I) School of Art and Architecture, where she was an Associate Professor of Architecture. Before joining the U of I faculty, she worked as an architectural project manager, and as a project developer and construction manager for neighborhood non-profit housing providers. Prior to that, she was an Associate Professor of Landscape Architecture at the University of Cincinnati. She co-authored the textbook Building Construction Principles, Materials, and Systems.
Diane wrote the following about her life and values: “During my life I have tried to respect and value the lives and beliefs of others, be honest and straightforward, take actions intended to leave places and environments better than when I found them, and model those behaviors to all those I encounter. I have had many jobs over the years, and value my work as an educator above all.”
Diane was fiercely independent, an intrepid adventurer, had a dry wit, and was a lover of nature and the natural world. She was a voracious reader, well-traveled, and was always involved in planning and building innumerable large and small home projects – things like moving a garage, changing the roofline, home additions, landscaping and much more. Growing up, Diane loved to ski, could hardly wait to go to camp each summer, and discovered musicals.
She is survived by her brother David, sister Lynne, brother-in-law Adriano, her black lab Gracie, and her many friends. Her friendships, dating back more than 70 years through present day, inspired her and fueled her soul. We will all miss her.
A celebration of Diane's life will be arranged in the coming months.
