Born to Howard and Alma Holbrook in Emmetsburg, Iowa, she was the eldest of four children. She moved with her family to the San Diego, California, area where she met her future husband and life-long friend Jim. They moved to Salem, Oregon, in 1987, and were married just shy of 59 years. Together they raised two daughters, Bridgett (Jim) Highley of Dallas, Oregon, and Lisa (Charles) Sekafetz also of Dallas, Oregon. Her five grandchildren, Christina, Kassey, Justin, Michelle, and Faith, and three great-grandchildren, Ruben, Allison, and Rosalie, were the sparkles of her life, and she loved them whole-heartedly. Diane enjoyed helping people, enjoyed life, and loved Jesus. She worked a few various jobs. Her time in the trust department at then Commercial Bank was one of her favorite jobs where she met many lifelong friends.
She enjoyed gardening, growing various orchids, and working on their farm in Salem, Oregon. Together with her husband, they had a blueberry farm which she actively managed. The interactions with her new and long-term customers were not just a transaction but a relationship with each person that she embraced. She looked forward to the next season so she could see those folks again in-person.
To say that she will be missed by family and friends is an understatement. She will be remembered especially by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brothers David, Danny (Bonnie), Doug (Shari), and sister-in-law Pat. Her smile was contagious, and she was a friend to all.
Diane was recently preceded in death by her husband Jim and brother-in-law Don, as well as sister-in-law Betty.
Donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in Diane’s name.
