

Doc joined the Navy and begun his lifelong travels, many talks were about this time. While stationed in San Diego, CA. He met and married his first wife Betty Jo Terril on April 22, 1950. They went on to raise their family. Their first daughter Glenda Gene Scofield was born in Klamath Falls OR in 1951. Doc was attending Oregon Technical Institute, OTI. After graduating they moved back to the family farm and had their second daughter Pamela Ann Scofield in 1952.
He worked as a guard for the Oregon State Penitentiary until the career of his dreams came to be where he was hired with the Salem Police Department on October 28, 1955. During his career with the City of Salem he achieved many goals and retired in 1984 as Captain. He was also involved with the Oregon Police Officer Association acting as president. Together with his wife Bettye Jo, they were very proud of their service as well as their aide in lobbying. They were victorious when the Department of Police Standards and Training became a reality. Doc and Betty Jo divorced in 1994 after 44 years of marriage.
Doc had many hobbies throughout his life and after retirement, most of which circled around anything mechanical. His passion was around his job, motor cycle racing, boats, and cars that could not be counted. In his golden years he also enjoyed scooters and bicycles.
In 1995 he married Sharon Willis and had 14 happy years until their heath declined. Their retirement plans of snow birding and riding motor cycles were not to continue.
Doc was preceded in death by his first daughter Glenda Smith (Greg Smith) his brother in spirit Harvey Crawley and first wife Betty Jo Scofield. He is survived by his daughter Pam (Steve) Foster, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren who will miss him greatly.
The memorial service will be held Saturday, November 19th at 2:00 pm at Howell-Edward-Doerksen Funeral Home, 1350 Commercial St SE, Salem, OR, with a reception to follow. Honor attendants from the Salem Police Department will be there to honor his Career. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memoriam to the Salem Police Department D.A.R.E program to educate our children in the community in lieu of flowers.
