Donald Hank was born in and raised around Chicago. He was a welder and welding supervisor for CB&I until the shop closed, working on water towers, submarines, and other fascinating projects. He was curious his entire life and a voracious reader of many topics, particularly history and archeology. He loved art and poetry, particularly English Romantics. His green thumb created one of the most admired gardens in West Salem. He loved to learn about other people and their lives, preferring listening to talking. Always a smart dresser, many would recognize him by his myriad hats- derbies, top hats, deerstalker, caps.
Don is survived by his wife Anne and his sister Mary Jo Sobczak and their families. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hallie Ford museum of Art (c/o Willamette University, 900 State St, Salem, OR 97301) or St Joseph Catholic School (721 Chemeketa St NE, Salem, OR 97301). Many thanks to Battle Creek Memory Care for their care for the last two years. Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 28th from 4-7 PM at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 AM on Wednesday, March 29th at St Joseph Catholic Church. Arrangements through Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
