Donald Neal Van Hees

Don Van Hees, a longtime resident of West Salem, passed away at home surrounded by his immediate family after a long battle with vascular dementia. Don was the devoted husband of Pat (McReal) for an extraordinary 71 years, a partnership marked by deep affection, shared adventures, and unwavering commitment.

He was a proud and loving father to Julia Van Hees, Leann Martin (Perry), Chris Van Hees, Traci Oberoi, and Kurt Van Hees (Betsy). Don cherished his role as a grandfather to Casey Martin (Nick Nieto), Jamie Martin, Armand Oberoi (Mandi), and Emma Van Hees, and he delighted in being a great grandfather to Olivia Oberoi.

Don lived a life rich with connection, curiosity, and joy. He loved traveling with his family, creating memories across countless miles and moments. At age 40, after receiving his first set of golf clubs, he discovered a passion that would stay with him for decades. Many happy days were spent on the golf course, enjoying the game, the outdoors, and the camaraderie it brought.

Deeply rooted in his community, Don was known for his kindness, reliability, and willingness to lend a hand. His faith was an important part of his life, and he remained active in his church, offering both service and friendship to those around him. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Neal and Leola Van Hees.

Don’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and steadfast devotion to family. His presence will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.
