

Edward Wichman of Salem, Oregon died March 15 at the age of 87. A native Oregonian, Ed was born in Salem to Joseph and Anna Wichman on April 15, 1933. He married Jeanne Nordone on August 22, 1953 and was the loving father of four children, six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
In his early years, Ed worked for Armpriest Sheet Metal in Salem and, along with his father, was instrumental in maintenance of many of the historic buildings in the area. He served in the Navy from 1952-1956 as a metalsmith aboard the U.S.S. Whiteside during the Korean War. He worked for more than 30 years in management for the U.S. Postal Service.
Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne who died in 2005, and his nine siblings. He is survived by his children Brenda Pederson of Seattle, WA, Diane Church (Shawn) of Junction City, OR, Lisa Wichman (Shawn Boyd) of Lake Stevens, WA, and Bruce Wichman of Bothell, WA.
His interests over the years included carpentry, gardening, hiking, camping, photography and traveling. He and Jeanne spent many years in the Holiday Rambler Club enjoying friendships and exploring new places. Most of all, he loved spending time with family and especially enjoyed his great-grandchildren.
A funeral mass is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on March 27th, at St. Joseph, followed by interment at St. Barbara Catholic Cemetery. Monsignor Huneger will officiate. Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service in Salem is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association.
