

Emogene (Gene) Wood Wojcik, a resident of Arizona, died on July 29, 2016 at the age of 99.
Gene was born on October 11, 1916 in Silverton, Oregon and was the daughter of Pearl and Emily (Manning) Wood. She attended Central Howell Grade School and graduated from Silverton High School. She went on to attend Oregon State College.
On February 9, 1941 she married Walter K. Wojcik, a Colonel in the United States Army. They traveled the world living in Germany twice. She enjoyed being a military spouse caring for her home and family. After 31 years in the military, they retired in 1972 to Salem, Oregon where Gene served with the Gallery Guides and was the Director of the Altar Guild at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
In 2004 her husband preceded her in death and Gene moved to Arizona to be closer to her family. She enjoyed gardening and reading and was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Salem.
Gene is survived by her daughter, Virginia Berkey (Vic), along with 3 grandchildren, Julie Heimark (Peter), Hilary Berkey, and Emily Helmick (Jeff) and six great grandchildren, Grace Helmick, Molly Helmick, Kjiel Heimark, Kazi Heimark, Ava Helmick and Kora Helmick.
A family service will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at 10:30 am at Mt. Crest Abbey Mausoleum in Salem, Oregon. Contributions may be made in memory of Gene to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Howell, Edwards, Doerksen is handling the arrangements.
