

Fay was born on May 20, 1938, in Stutsman County, North Dakota, and was the son of Lloyd and Rachel (Bovee) Walters. He grew up in Jamestown, North Dakota, and at age 14 moved to Albany where he attended high school. In 1955, he enlisted in the United States Navy serving in Asia and the South Pacific. He received an honorable discharge in 1963.
After the military, Fay moved to Longview, Washington, where he started his carrier with IBM. He earned his associates degree from Pace University in 1971 and his bachelor’s degree from Syracuse University in 1973.
On Oct. 12, 1962, he married Lenora Jean Shuck in Salem, and his career moved the family to Salem, Anchorage, Alaska, Schaumberg, Illinois, Danville, California, Trumble, Connecticut, Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey, and finally Danville, California, where he retired in 1996. Following retirement he resided in Brush Prairie, Washington, and Simpsonville, South Carolina, finally settling in Apex, North Carolina, where he resided until his passing.
Fay was an even tempered, patient man who was thoughtful, honest and hardworking. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and cars. He also enjoyed shooting and reloading. His greatest joy was his grandchildren and his family. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Fay is survived by his wife, Lenora of Apex, North Carolina; sons Richard Walters of Vancouver, Washington, and William Walters of Lewisville, Texas; daughters Faye Ann Judson of Wilsonville and Bobbette Nacco of Wyckoff, New Jersey; brother John Walters of LaPine; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Chuck Walters.
A visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at Howell, Edwards, Doerksen Funeral Home. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at City View Cemetery in Salem.
