Florence Trent

SALEM - Florence passed away in Salem on November 24, at the age of 88. She was born in Orwigsburg, Pennsylvania on March 20, 1923 to Ralph and Alberta Shoener, and graduated from St. Lukes in Philadelphia, PA.

On January 2, 1946, Florence married Richard Trent, and together they raised two children. After working as a registered nurse for Drs. Beardsley, Weber and Bailey for 29 years, she retired in 1985.

Florence will be fondly remembered for her wonderful laugh. Her hobbies and interests included reading, working in her yard and doing crossword puzzles -- in ink! She volunteered at the Salem Capitol Building Gift Shop for 21 years, as well as many years at the Historic Elsinore Theatre. She was a good listener, and her granddaughters were her passion.

Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Trent. She is survived by daughter Mary Trent (Jeffrey) Welsh of Tualatin, Oregon; son David Richard (Ada) Trent of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; granddaughters Andrea Trent Welsh of Costa Rica; and Erika Trent Welsh of Eugene, Oregon.

A celebration of life will be held Wednesday, December 21, from 2 to 4 pm, at the Oregon State Capitol Building. Please wear red, Florence’s favorite color.
