Gary Dean Groom

Gary Dean Groom, 67, of Salem, OR, passed away on March 20th, 2026. Gary was born on January 27th, 1959, in Salem, OR to Stanley & Gloria Groom. Gary graduated from South Salem High School in 1977 and served in the National Guard for 16 years before being honorably discharged in 1992.

Gary resided in Salem for all his life. He was a hard worker who took pride in every job he had, whether it was his dedicated work in the sheet metal shop of II Morrow Inc. or all his years of building maintenance in various capacities before retiring in 2024.

Gary’s greatest passions in life were his family, NASCAR, NY Yankees, Raiders, Blazers, fireworks and “goofing off”. He loved having fun and sharing his favorite things with everyone.

Gary is survived by his children: Lylia Strange, Levi and Jordan Sheldon. Grandchildren: Danielle and Jack. Great-Grandchildren: Adeline and Bellamy. Brothers: Bill, Byron, Mike and Joe Groom. Half-siblings: Stanley and Barbara Groom. He is preceded in death by his brother, Warren Groom and his sister, Melinda Wilson.

A service will be held at Virgil T Golden funeral home in Salem, OR on April 25th, 2026, at 11am.
