Gary was born on August 21, 1940, in Denison, Texas, the youngest of six children, with four sisters and one brother. He proudly served four years in the United States Navy before dedicating his professional life to education and public service. He also worked alongside his brother and uncle building irrigation systems throughout the Columbia Gorge, an experience he always remembered with pride. Gary was a respected educator and administrator. He taught elementary school students with patience and compassion and later served as Assistant Superintendent in Hermiston, Oregon. He eventually retired as Superintendent in Stayton, Oregon, leaving behind a lasting impact on countless students, teachers, and families throughout his career.
Outside of work, Gary embraced life fully. He earned his pilot’s license, enjoyed many happy hours on the golf course, and had a lifelong love for dogs — especially his faithful companion, Zoey. Above all else, Gary cherished his family. He was a loving husband, devoted father, proud grandfather, and great-grandfather whose steady presence and kindness will be deeply missed.
Gary was preceded in death by his first wife, Geneva “Elaine” Eldridge Moore. He is survived by his loving wife, Kay Delaney-Moore; his son, Mark (Patricia); his daughter, Kimberly (Drew); his grandsons, Scott and Brent; five great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and dear friends. Gary will be remembered for his dedication to education, his love of family, his gentle spirit, and the many lives he touched throughout his life.
