February 13, 1929August 9, 2018

Gene Albert Shamberger, 89, died on August 9, 2018 at Salem Hospital. He was born February 13, 1929 at home in Sublimity, Oregon to John Jacob Shamberger and Lizzie A. Smith. His grandfather, who was a doctor, delivered him. Siblings: Edna, Angie, Mary, and Johnnie. Gene was the youngest. He went to school until the 8th grade when his parents thought that was enough. Gene married Lois Marie Davis Sept. 12th, 1950 at the Church of God Chapel in Marion County, Oregon. They were married for 60 years until Lois died in November of 2010. He worked for his sister’s husband at his sawmill, as a bus boy, and then his main career as a machinery mechanic at Truitt Brothers Cannery. He also had his own rubber stamp business. Gene loved to travel, take pictures, and make homemade ice cream at family gatherings. He loved to work in his yard, but as time passed he wasn’t able to do as much. He bought a John Deere mower that he loved to ride and gave his grandkids rides in a trailer on the back. Gene was a loving husband and father. He and Lois had 5 boys, Donald, Ronald, Roger, David, and Regan. Roger, Regan, and Donald all preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his granddaughter, Ashley. Through it all, Gene’s faith remained strong. Gene was and always will be an anchor for his family. He is survived by two sons: Ronald and David (Lois), five grandchildren: Ryan, Neka, Cameron, Felicia, and Trinity; and 8 great grandchildren. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 15th from 4-7pm at Howell Edwards Doerksen with Rigdon-Ransom Funeral Directors Funeral Home.
