Gerald (Jerry) Vaughan Tippets passed away on July 28th, 2022 at the age of 82. He was born on February 10, 1940 to Vaughan Tippets and Thelma (Porter) Tippets and grew up in the Star Valley Wyoming area. He attended BYU where he met and married his wife Joan (Woodard) Tippets in 1964 and graduated from Utah State in 1966. They moved to Salem, Oregon in 1970 where they raised their five (amazing) children.
Jerry was very active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints his entire life. He served as Bishop as well as a Scoutmaster and was especially loved by the youth of the church. Jerry was always cracking jokes and was known for carrying M&M’s in his pocket that he would happily share. His passions included his family, photography, fishing, woodcarving and the great outdoors. He started as a teacher in Newport, Oregon, and later worked for Encyclopedia Britannica selling films and filmstrips to schools. Later, he also did some real estate and insurance sales.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joan, as well as their children Heidi Johnson (Sean), Jason Tippets (Julie), Heather Berliner (Mike), Joy Tippets and nine (amazing) grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Holli Tippets.
A graveside service will take place on Tuesday, August 2nd at 11:00am at Belcrest Memorial Park followed by a luncheon at the church, 3154 Eola Dr. NW.
