Passed away on September 12, 2022
Gregory Charles Herriges was born March 31st, 1967, in Springfield, Oregon. After almost three years of courageously battling cancer, he passed peacefully in his sleep at his home in Keizer, Oregon, on September 12th, 2022. Gregory spent his early years enjoying many adventures in Bend, Oregon, while attending Pilot Butte Middle School. His dreams of becoming an oceanographer grew once his family moved to Coos Bay, Oregon. In high school, he spent his time surfing and running track and field, even qualifying for the state championship! Gregory graduated from Marshall High School in 1985. As a young adult, Gregory tried his hand as a business owner. He opened a LaserDisc store, which lasted about as long as the popularity of LaserDiscs. Afterward, Gregory attended George Fox University, receiving his Bachelor’s Degree in 1997. In 2011, he returned to George Fox where he earned his Master’s Degree in teaching. Gregory’s career spanned many different industries with his final position being with the State of Oregon Department of Revenue. He is remembered as a fun & witty coworker, who loved sharing all types of scrumptious food. One of Gregory’s favorite things to do at work was send out the daily “national holiday”. The day he enjoyed most, by far, was National Mac & Cheese day! Gregory was always there to lift others up with a smile and comic relief. Gregory is survived by his daughter, Rachel, who was truly his pride and joy. Together, they watched many of his favorite movies that he would receive through the Netflix DVD service, which he still used, even in 2022. When Gregory and Rachel weren’t watching movies, they were getting delicious food at The Old Spaghetti Factory or eating crab on the Oregon Coast. However, their most favorite memories together were at Disneyland California, where they ate churros, rode all the Star Wars rides, and enjoyed long conversations about God and their lives. Gregory will be remembered for his love of food and movies, his witty sense of humor, and the joy and laughter he brought into the lives of his friends and family. A Celebration of life will be scheduled for Spring 2023, after Rachel completes her college classes. Words of comfort and support are greatly appreciated.
