

Helen Marie Baker was born to the late Clarence and Lowel Lower, September 15, 1932 in Fayetteville, Arkansas and went to heaven on December 11, 2011 in Salem, Oregon. Helen graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1955 and received a BA in Home Economics. She married Troy Young Baker in 1954, and they lived together in Arkansas, before relocating to Salem in 1959. Troy preceded her into heaven in 1992.
Helen was a supervisor at Oregon Fruit Products until retirement, and was a homemaker who loved to cook and take care of people. She was an active member of West Salem Baptist Church, where she served as a teacher and on numerous committees in order to serve people. She loved to be with her friends, to work hard and to be involved. She was known as being very generous and hard-working, and made a positive difference in many lives.
Helen is survived by two children, Georgiann Berger (husband Don Berger) and Gail Hoots, and 4 grandchildren: Stephanie Turner, Tiffanie Bradley (husband Scott Bradley), Scott Hoots (wife Elyse) and Craig Hoots (wife Danielle). She also very much loved her great grandchild Troy Bradley and was overjoyed about her soon-to-come next great grand-child. Helen was the oldest of seven children, including brothers Clyde, James, Claude, Philip and sisters Dot and Hazel.
A viewing will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Howell-Edwards-Doerksen Funeral Home. Graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 16th at Restlawn Memorial Park, followed by a memorial service at 1:00 p.m. at West Salem Baptist Church. In lieu of gifts the family is requesting that donations may be made to North Salem High School track club (765 14th St. NE, Salem, OR 97301) or to Salem Academy Schools (942 Lancaster Dr. NE, Salem, OR 97301).
