It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Edward Hay, who left us peacefully on his birthday, September 17, 2024, in the same town where he was born, Salem, OR. James was a man of quiet strength and gentle wisdom, touching the lives of many throughout his 73 years.
James was born on September 17, 1951, to John and Cecilia Hay in Salem, OR. He grew up on the family farm, where he developed a love for the land that would guide his career as a farmer. James attended Oregon State University, but left to help his father on the farm and spent the rest of his life dedicated to farming, embodying hard work, perseverance, and a connection to the earth. He married Julia Robbins on April 7, 1990 and they were married for 20 years.
He was a loving father to his sons, Jared and Jeffrey Hay. Jeffrey and his wife Annie blessed James with two granddaughters, Evinly and Holly. James took great pride in his family, always offering a calm and gentle presence that provided unwavering support and love.
James's life was marked by his involvement in the community and his dedication to his faith as a member of the Salem First Baptist Church.
Throughout his life, James had a variety of interests that brought him joy and fulfillment. He loved farming and the land, but also enjoyed cooking, music, and traveling.
James was preceded in death by his parents, John and Cecilia Hay, his brother Joe, and his sister ValLeta. He is survived by his sons Jared and Jeffrey (Annie) Hay, his granddaughters Evinly and Holly Hay, and his sister Linda (Marvin) Stoller. His legacy of quiet strength, intelligence, and caring will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
A Graveside Service will be held on September 28, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Restlawn Memory Gardens, located at 201 Oak Grove Rd, Salem, OR.
A funeral service to honor and celebrate James’s life will be held on September 28, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Salem First Baptist Church, located at 395 Marion St NE, Salem, OR. The family invites all those who knew James to join them in remembering his life.
James's gentle spirit and caring heart have left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege to know him. He will be dearly missed but forever remembered.
