James Brian Hupy

Jim grew up in the Pacific Northwest and spent most of his life in Salem. He lived a life dedicated to his family, his community, and his country, having proudly served in both the Washington and Oregon National Guard.

In his early career, Jim worked for the Parks Department before mastering the trade of printing. In the 1970s, he was one of only a few experts on the entire West Coast capable of operating a complex multi-color printing press. He later found a powerful calling in teaching, spending over 20 years as a vocational instructor at the Oregon State Correctional Institution (OSCI). Teaching small engine repair, Jim was known for being exceptionally fair and deeply respected. His hard work transformed many lives; throughout his life, he was often approached in public by former students who thanked him for helping them change their lives for the better.

In his retirement, Jim continued to bring smiles to the community as a flower delivery driver for Keizer Flowers. He was also deeply involved in local history and hobbies, volunteering his time for the Keizer Heritage Society Schoolhouse preservation and participating in numerous car clubs. In his later years, he built wonderful new friendships as part of the Vintage GMC Motorhome community. His vast mechanical knowledge made him a mainstay in the club, where he was fondly referred to by fellow travelers as "Tech Support."

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 50 years, Mary; his beloved daughter, Jeanelle, who passed away just last year; and his stepdaughter, Julie.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Judy; his son, Christopher his girlfriend Lisa; his stepdaughter, Jill (of California); his granddaughter, Adrianna; and his sister, Rose. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Jim touched the lives of many and will be truly missed.
