Jennette was born May 30,1908 in Portland, Oregon. She was the second of six children born to William and Nellie Stokes. She had three brothers and two sisters. The family moved to Toledo, Oregon in 1920 when Jennette was twelve. She graduated from Toledo High School. In the years following graduation the family moved to Hebo, Oregon where she met and married Albert Aufdermauer in 1929. They remained married until his death in 1977. They lived and worked on a dairy farm that was owned by his parents. To their union was born four children; Allan, Marcia, Beverly and Ina.
Jennette's live work was that of a homemaker. She and the children helped with the mink farm. She had a green thumb all of her life and enjoyed growing flowers and vegetable gardens. She sewed for the family making the children's clothing. She was involved in home extension and gardening clubs. She played the piano and accordion, and she taught her children and neighborhood children piano lessons. She and Albert played pinochle with the same group of friends for years and years.
Four years following Albert's death Jennette married Newton M. Huyett who had been a high school classmate in Toledo back in the 1920s. During their courtship Jennette made Newton a rhubarb pie using frozen rhubarb. Unfortunately the crust cooked and looked done but the rhubarb inside did not thaw out, but remained frozen! Nevertheless they were married in 1981.
She had a new family then including Newton's children; Ernie, Rick, and Jean.
Jennette was an ardent outdoors person. She fished for salmon and trout. She was always the self-appointed one to record who caught what and how big. She was also a hunter for over 35 years. She made an annual hunting trip to eastern Oregon to hunt elk and deer.
She enjoyed traveling. In retirement years she traveled to Hawaii and Alaska.
Jennette loved to talk.
She dearly loved her twelve grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren.
Jennette Huyett passed away April 2, 2001 in Salem, Oregon. She will be missed greatly by her family and friends. Funeral services were conducted April 6, 2001 at Restlawn Funeral Home in Salem. She is entombed at Restlawn Mausoleum.
