Jon Marc Duell passed away at the age of 61 on August 24, 2021. He was born on August 22, 1960 to Bruce and Carol Duell in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He grew up with his three brothers, Jay, Joe and Jamey. After receiving many athletic accolades in his hometown of Warren, Pennsylvania, Jon sought adventure and exploration which lead him to join the United States Coast Guard. Jon spent his early years experiencing the adventure he sought as a child, exploring the world, surfing the white sandy beaches of Puerto Rico, and saving lives at sea as he was part of the search and rescue helicopter team. Jon eventually landed in Coos Bay, Oregon where he had three children Sam, Joey and Katie (oldest to youngest) with his wife Stacie Duell. Rising to the rank of Command Master Chief of the Pacific Northwest, Jon decided to retire after 28 years in the Coast Guard to pursue new horizons and continue to help others by earning a degree in Sonography from the Oregon Institute of Technology. During this time, God led Jon to the love of his Life, Tiffany. They were married in North Bend, Oregon on June 4th, 2011 surrounded by family and friends. Jon graduated from OIT and began his new journey. He strived to be the best at whatever he did. He especially enjoyed interventional ultrasound, guiding the hand of the physician performing various procedures. More important than the job, he loved his coworkers and they loved him.
Jon and Tiffany loved to travel. They soaked in the sun at the all-inclusive resorts in Cabo and Puerto Vallarta, floated the lazy river and hiked the mountains in Arizona, explored their old stomping grounds in Hawaii, discovered the luscious greenness of Ireland, brought the bible to life touring Israel with their church family and most of all, their honeymoon in the hut over the clear blue water in Bora Bora.
Jon loved the Lord. His passion was to serve others. He taught life recovery to men in need, he traveled to Alaska and helped build a church for the village of people, he cooked for men at multiple Men’s Retreats with our church and he served at the Salem Food Bank every month. Jon’s ultimate desire in life was to love and be loved.
What meant most to Jon was experiencing life with those he loved. Every night you could find him sitting poolside by his wife, Tiffany and best friends Jeff and Natalie Schmidt. He shared his life, his heart and his love for God with all who joined them. Those who knew Jon remember his defiant passion for living life to the fullest. He always strived to be better for the people around him until his final day. He will be greatly missed.
