Jose Roman Mendez

We celebrate the life of our beloved Deacon Jose Roman Mendez who returned to his Heavenly Father on May 24, 2026. Born in San Luis Potosí, Mexico on March 18, 1944 to Roman Mendez and Maria De Jesus Saldaña Mendez, Jose carried the spirit of his Mexican heritage and the strength of his family throughout his life. His passion for ministry was more than a career; it was his hearts calling. After earning his degree in Theology and Ministry, he spent his years as a Deacon, offering comfort and prayer to everyone he met. Deacon Jose’s life was a beautiful testament to his faith, and though we miss him dearly, we find peace knowing he is at rest in the kingdom he spent his life teaching and serving.

He was ordained as Deacon Jose Roman Mendez through the Archdiocese of Portland, Oregon in 1993 and dedicated himself to serving the community through multiple Catholic Parishes.

Jose is survived by his beloved wife, Maria Mendez of 60 years, his daughters Ruth Mendez Rocha and Raquel Mendez; his grandchildren Joshua Rocha, Gerardo Borrego, Miguel Mendez, Selena Rocha, Francisco Cedillo, Andrew Neskahi, Avrion Neskahi and Sebastian Mendez; his 9 great-grandchildren; his sister Lupia Ibarra and his nieces Elena Martinez and Sylvia Montecucco.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Roman Mendez and Maria de Jesus Saldaña Mendez, and his children, Jaime and Noemi Mendez.
