Juanita “Nita” Page was surrounded by her loving family as she passed peacefully from this life on a beautiful spring morning in Vancouver, Washington, on May 9, 2020. She was 91. Born in Eldorado, Oklahoma, to parents Lee and Eunice Sample, Nita grew up and attended school in Medicine Lodge, Kansas. She met her high school sweetheart, Gordon R. Page, in 1943. The young love birds married in 1947, in Corpus Christi, Texas, where Gordon was stationed in the Navy. Following the Navy service, they resided in Norman, Oklahoma, with their new baby, Randy. Nita worked there while Gordon attended the University of Oklahoma. They loved taking their young son to OU football games, and Nita continued to watch games never hesitating to sing the Boomer Sooner fight song! In 1953, the family relocated to Portland, Oregon where daughter, Debbie, was born in 1956. As empty nesters, the couple moved to Lewiston, Idaho in 1974, where Nita found surprising delight in accompanying Gordon on wild and rugged pursuits, such as bird hunting, boating, camping and fishing—often on the Dworshak Reservoir. Shortly after Gordon’s retirement, the pair finally settled in Vancouver, Washington, in 1991, where they savored their golden years spending time with family and friends. They embarked on many adventurous and memorable RV trips with their beloved dogs, Ollie and Charly, often meeting up to caravan with Nita’s sister and brother-in-law, Laressa and Don Guild, of Liberal, Kansas. All throughout her life, Nita was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and found great joy in making a warm and welcoming home for her loved ones. She relished, and was revered by, a wide circle of friends wherever she lived. Although she never considered herself a competitive player, Nita was known to enjoy a friendly day of Bridge with her Bridge Club pals.
She is preceded in death by her parents and two sisters. She is survived by her loving mate-for-life Gordon; her two children, Randy (Margo) Page of Boise, Idaho, and Debbie Finders of Tualatin, Oregon; and six grandchildren, Lindsay (Geoff) Mallow, Stacey (Ryan) Keller, Dana and Jennifer Finders, and Collin and Alyssa Page.
The family wishes to thank the staff at The Quarry Senior Living for their compassionate and extraordinary care. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Humane Society of SW Washington.
