Salem ~ LeRoy W. Burger was born in the San Francisco Army Hospital to William A. Burger and Mary (Jenner) Burger in 1918. LeRoy married Hulda Nickel in 1947 and together they had four children—Sharon Jackson, Patti Symington, Ronald and Phillip Burger. Hulda passed away in 1984 and LeRoy then married Ermyl Obershaw, a longtime family friend, in 1986. This marriage added 3 more children to the blended family resulting in 2 more daughters, Cheryl Burrell and Pam Obershaw, and one son, Roger Obershaw. LeRoy is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and 2 sisters.
LeRoy served 8 years in the Navy as a Motor Machinist during WWII and then spent the rest of his working career as a painter and as a vocational instructor for the Oregon Department of Corrections. He was a lifelong member of the VFW and a long-time member of Kingwood Bible Church in West Salem.
LeRoy enjoyed tinkering in his shop, fishing, camping, playing cards, gardening, playing Bingo, and of course, spending time with Ermyl and family.
