

Leslie "Dale" Gesner, a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and retired law enforcement officer, passed away peacefully at the age of 79.
Born in Salem, Oregon, Dale grew up with a strong sense of duty, integrity, and connection to family. He graduated from South Salem High School and went on to dedicate much of his life to public service through a 32-year career in law enforcement with the City of Salem. Dale went into the National Guard in 1965 and received an honorable discharge in 1971. After retiring, he continued his commitment to justice by working with the National Insurance Crime Bureau.
In 1977, Dale married Cheryl. Together they built a home filled with laughter, adventure, and love.
Dale had a deep appreciation for the outdoors-whether fishing, crabbing, camping, or traveling with family. He also enjoyed personal interests like crafting stained glass, golf, playing Texas Hold'em, and exploring his ancestry.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and June Gesner. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Cheryl, his siblings Rhonda Sablan and Gordon Gesner, and his beloved children and grandchildren:
Wendi and Brandon Coates, Lori and Jon Hardy, Cory and Belinda Gesner, and Kelsey and Jason Steffen.
He was a proud grandfather to Madisen, Tyler, Tacesyen, Lukus, Caden, Bain, Malia, Zadok, Maclin, Remmi, Stryker, Elias, Revel, John, Eleanor and great-grandfather to Naomi.
Dale's life was one of quiet strength, service, and dedication to family. He will be remembered for his steady presence, sharp wit, and unwavering love.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
