

Loris Harrell of Salem, Oregon passed away December 4, 2013. He was born in Colorado Springs, CO May 7, 1912. His childhood and schooling years were spent at Hutchinson, Kansas. He later graduated from High School in 1931 and went on to Jr. College and Business College in Hutchinson.
Loris was a state amateur boxing champion at the age of fourteen. In the year of 1932 he was a member of a boxing team out of Kansas City, MO who went to New York, NY to box for the AAU Boxing Championships of North America. He also gave his boxing credit for getting him a job with Lockheed Aircraft Corp. in 1934 where he worked for ten years. During the WWII years Loris worked for Lockheed Aircraft at Belfast, Ireland. After the war years, he joined the Morrison Knudson Construction Company and worked thirty years overseas building Roads and Dams. The jobs were in such countries as Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Turkey, Indonesia, and South Vietnam.
Loris retired from heavy construction work in 1978 and spent the balance of his working years operating Manufactured Mobile Home Parks. As a fifty year Mason he enjoyed spending his evenings at Salem Lodge # 4 or going with the brothers to visit other lodges.
A visitation will be held Friday, December 13th from 10-11:30 am at Howell Edwards Doerksen Funeral Directors followed by a Cryptside Service at Belcrest Memorial Park. A Memorial Service in his honor will be held Saturday, December 14th at 2pm at the Scottish Rite Temple.
