

Madeline was born in Boise, Idaho on November 17, 1939 to Lloyd and Bertha Reed. She was raised in Inglewood, California, where she graduated from Inglewood High. She entered the University of Oregon in 1957 where she met her husband Gerald (Jerry) Rempel. They were married upon graduation in 1961. Madeline received a degree in Elementary Education. Madeline worked as an elementary teacher in Lincoln, Nebraska and in Kansas City, Missouri. They moved back to Jerry's hometown, Salem, in 1965. In Salem she worked as a teller and then customer service agent for then Commercial Bank (now Columbia Bank). Madeline and Jerry loved to travel and have been to many countries and took an around the world cruise. Madeline was an active member of AAUW.
Madeline is survived by her son Mark Rempel and his wife Mary of Jupiter, Florida, son Scott Rempel and wife Amy of Falls Church, Virginia and daughter Dr. Mary Aim Rempel-Hester of Bremerton, Washington, and her husband Brian, Brothers Richard Reed (deceased) and wife Maureen of Athens, Georgia and Robert Reed and wife Noreen of Tacoma, Washington. Surviving are also brother in law Robert Rempel and wife Suzan of Salem and sister in law Clarice Stewart of Salem and mother in law Maxine Allen of Salem. Madeline has five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Madeline was very active at Trinity United Methodist Church where she was a coordinator of the Lord’s Cupboard food bank along with her husband for a number of years. Madeline and Jerry moved to Lancaster Village earlier this year when she was experiencing steady deterioration from Parkinson's disease.
A memorial service will be held at Trinity United Methodist on Sunday, October 12th at 4:00 PM, and gifts may be directed to the Lord's Cupboard at the church. Madeline is cared for by Howell-Edwards-Doerksen with Rigdon-Ransom directors.
