Marjorie Irene Pierce was born in Lewis, Iowa on April 28, 1920. She grew up on a farm having fun with her three sisters. The Pierce girls loved helping their father with farm work. Marjorie went to Lewis High School and enjoyed playing basketball. It was in high school where Marjorie met her future husband, Paul Armentrout. She went on to graduate with a teaching degree from Simpson College and became a teacher. Paul had moved to the west and he proposed to Marge in a letter. She took the train by herself to marry Paul in Longview, WA on May 31, 1941. They began a family (Sherrie) and Paul served as a pilot in WWII.
After the war, Marge and Paul made their home in the Northwest. They added three more children to their family (Jane, David, and Kim). Paul's job opportunities required them to move frequently. Marge became an expert at helping her family transition to change and creating a happy home in 15 new places. She was an excellent, competitive bowler and enjoyed the challenge of any game or puzzle.
After Paul retired, Marge enjoyed traveling with him and starting many new hobbies. They were happily married for 72 years. Marge was an avid tennis player, golfer and swimmer. She enjoyed sewing, china painting, playing Bridge and visiting the Oregon Coast. Throughout her life she loved to garden and taught us freshly harvested food always tastes best. Her apricot jam was a family favorite. Marge always loved cats, fed the birds and grew flowers. We will remember her beautiful Sweet Peas and how she often picked bouquets for friends.
Marge grew in faith in her later years. She loved the Lord and knew Paul would be waiting for her in heaven. Marjorie was an amazing woman who lived a long and beautiful life. She was fiercely independent, creative and determined. She always worked hard and enjoyed new adventures. Marge leaves behind a lasting legacy of love to her children: Sherrie Kuhl (Gary), Jane Snoddy (Ken), David Armentrout (Margaret), Kim Luoma (Jon), plus 10 Grandchildren and 25 Great Grandchildren.
