Mark Peter Laux, 61, died on Friday July 31st in Salem, Oregon after a brief battle with cancer. He was born on November 3, 1964, to John Laux and Dolores Laux (Ginter) in Salem. He was the fourth of five sons. Mark attended the first and second grade at St. Vincent’s Catholic School before the family moved to Stayton, Oregon. He attended St. Mary’s Catholic School and Regis High School, graduating in 1982. Mark earned an associate’s degree from Chemeketa Community College in 1984. Mark started working at OR Dept. of Forestry then went to work at Oregon State University. He returned to the Dept. of Forestry where he reconnected with his future wife after meeting at Chemeketa. He finished his career at Dept. of Human Services in 2011. Mark and Roberta Duda married on June 2, 1990. They had three children – Bryan, Nicole and Patrick. Mark had a lifelong interest in muscle cars and owned a few notable models – a Trans Am and Dodge Charger much to the chagrin of his mom and wife. Mark is survived by his brothers; Joe Laux, Steve Laux, Jerry Laux, and Greg Laux along with his children Bryan and Nicole and his grandchildren Charlotte and Ozzy. Patrick passed away in 2020. The family would like to thank the staff at Divine Hope Homes for taking such good care of Mark for the last three years. The family would like to thank Caring Hearts Hospice for their end-of-life care. A funeral service will take place at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Stayton, Oregon on August 17th. Rosary will start at 915am with funeral mass at 10am. Donations can be made to the Marion Polk food bank in Mark's honor.
