Marshall was born, raised, and lived in Salem Oregon for his entire life. He loved the Oregon Ducks, antique convertibles, Dunkin’ Donuts and McDonald’s coffee. For the last 15 years, he was tenderly cared for by Barbara and Kathy at a Salem home for adults.
Born December 27, 1945, Marshall grew up in the south Salem countryside. After graduating from South Salem High School, he worked at Lipman’s and Frederick and Nelson’s, which allowed him to joke that he owned half the place. Marshall then took his work ethic to work for the State of Oregon at SAIF as a building engineer until he retired.
Those who knew Marshall admired his wry sense of humor and kindness. He didn’t speak much, but his words were always thoughtful and good-spirited.
Marshall was preceded in passing by his mother Dorathy, father Chester and sister Nann (Dennis) and is survived by his brother Douglas Nelson (Kay), his niece Heidi Olson (Mike), nephews Scott Olson (Jeanne), Ty Nelson (Laura), and CJ Nelson. They invite all to a visitation at Virgil T. Golden’s in Salem on Wednesday September 7, between 2-4pm. Later this month he will then be laid to rest next to his parents at Belcrest Memorial in Salem.
