With sadness the family wishes to announce the death of Mary Jean Elfstrom. She passed away Sunday, August 27, at the age of 97. Jean had been in declining health for several years, suffering from dementia.
Born March 27, 1926, in Illinois, Jean moved to Salem with her parents, brother and sister during childhood. She graduated from high school at Sacred Heart Academy, and then attended Marylhurst College. She married Robert Elfstrom Jr in 1950, and the couple had four children. She later divorced and entered the work force in her forties. Jean worked for the State of Oregon as a court administrator, until her retirement in 1994. She was active in several volunteer roles with the Salem Hospital Auxiliary, the Assistance League, and the Women of Rotary. She was a member of St Joseph’s Catholic Church.
Jean is survived by three children, Susan, Bob, and Toby. Her son Tim passed away earlier this year. Her family also includes eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A private memorial service will be held with inurnment at Belcrest Memorial Park.
