Mary was born on March 11, 1938, in Wagner, South Dakota, and moved to Dallas, Oregon, at a young age, where she built a life full of family and friendships. She spent many years working at Roth’s IGA, followed by a long and respected career in finance.
Mary was known for her kind heart, sharp wit, and love of the simple joys in life—especially playing pinochle, going camping, family get togethers, and caring for stray animals who always seemed to find their way to her doorstep.
She is survived by her daughter Vikky; stepchildren Randy, Sue, Terry, Larry, and Sheri; grandchildren Lindsay, Brandon, Karly, Makenzie, Jelissa, Leah, Heather, Matthew, Jason, Joshua, Jordan, and Logan; as well as numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and her closest friend of 76 years, Lonna Drops. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Ted Hillyer, her siblings Margarett, Florence, Joan, and Arthur, and her great-grandson Isaac.
A viewing will be held from 10:15 to 10:55 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. on June 27th, 2025 at St. Vincent de Paul Parish, 1010 Columbia St NE, Salem, OR 97301. A burial ceremony will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Dallas Cemetery, 2065 SW Fairview Ave, Dallas, OR 97338.
While donations are not requested, memorial contributions in Mary’s honor may be made to Friends of Felines, 4157 Cherry Ave NE, Keizer, OR 97303—an organization close to her heart.
Mary will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
