

Mary Ann was born on May 22, 1936 in Stayton, Oregon and was the daughter of Walter and Mabel (Sherman) Rak. She grew up in Aumsville and attended Catholic School in Shaw.
On August 10, 1957, she married Richard Koehler in Phenix City, Alabama and she quickly assumed the role of Army Wife. Mary Ann moved about the country and the world to various Military Posts. While her husband was deployed to Vietnam, she became both mother and father to her three children serving as the glue that kept her family together.
In 1974, she settled in Salem and she worked for 10 years in the Laundry Department of Fairview Hospital and Training Center. Mary Ann was a devoted wife and mother. She was strong and enjoyed being surrounded by her family. She
enjoyed cooking, camping, going for walks and trips to the casino. Her greatest love was her family and her
beloved dogs. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Salem.
She is survived by her husband: Richard of Salem; children: Charyl Koehler of Salem, Sandra (husband, Paul) Anello of Salem, and Michael Koehler of Salem; grandson: James Anello of Salem; sisters: Teresa Rak of Salem, Joanne Pietrok of Scio, and Kathleen Rubel of Sublimity; and brother: James Rak of Salem. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Rose Rak.
A visitation will be on Friday, March 27, 2015 from 10:00 am – 5:00 pm at Howell, Edwards, Doerksen Funeral Home. Recitation of the Rosary will be on Monday, March 30th at 10:30 am followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 am both at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Salem. Burial will follow at Belcrest Memorial Park. Contributions may be made in memory of Mary Ann to the Oregon Humane Society.
