Melly was born to Melvin and Hazel Richins on October 24, 1942 in Santa Monica, California, the youngest of 4 children. As a child, she also lived in Arizona and was known to play with reptiles and even had a tarantula in her bedroom. The family eventually found their way to Oregon.
Melly met her husband, David, in early 1959 in Salem, Oregon. They married shortly after on May 14, 1959. They went on to have 3 sons Craig, Steven, and Robert. In 1963, after David’s service in the U.S. Air Force, they moved back to Oregon. Melly spent her time focused on her family, being active with her sons’ involvement in the Boy Scouts.
Melly was dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved crafting, canning, cooking, collecting thimbles, and always had the home decorated for every holiday season. She loved singing, coloring, was a huge fan of I Love Lucy, and watching old movies with her grandkids. Melly’s wittiness and sense of humor were known and loved by all.
Melly joins her parents, Melvin and Hazel, and her son Craig, in Heaven. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, David, her sons, Steven and Robert, and her daughters, Kathy and Samantha. Her grandchildren, Jennifer, Beth (Kevin), Laura (Caleb), Mark (Monica), Adam (Aleshia), Sean, Amanda (Jonathan), Michael, Chris (Crystal), Charlene (Benjamin), Richard, Melissa (Aaron), Molly (Tommy).
