Mercelene Ann Flagg

Mercelene Ann Flagg was born in Siletz Oregon on July 1, 1926 to Abraham and Aurilla Tom. Mercelene was named after her Grandmother Mercelene Riggs. Grandma and Grandpa had a wonderful family of eight girls Alta, Gladys, Christine, Eleanor, Mercelene, Alice, Emma, Doris, and two sons, David and Robert. Grandpa moved the family to Salem Oregon to get their educations and survive in what had become “a white man’s world” Mercelene went to Business College and then worked as a secretary and administrative assistant. Mom worked for the state of Oregon for 33 years and retired at her position in the hearings office for the correctional institution in 1990. Mercelene loved to travel. Mercelene played piano, accordion and guitar. Mercelene was an accomplished seamstress, did embroidery work, crochet and knitting. In her more youthful days Mercelene said she loved to dance. Mercelene was very outgoing and had many friends. Mercelene was also a very active mentor; it was not unusual for her to be on the phone talking for an hour with someone. Or chatting privately with someone. Mercelene married Marvin Willard Flagg and had three children, Patty, Beverly and Jeff. Their grandchildren are: Amber, Cecilia, Levi, Patrick, Tammy, Marlene, Melissa and Jeff. Great grandchildren include: Walker, Susun, Guin, Kyoni, Nokoa, Isaiah, Anthony, Kaikanim, Jacob, Graycn, Parker, Julian, Bailey, and Bode
