Michael Scott Chester

Michael Scott Chester age 66 died peacefully with family by his side on February 2, 2024. He was born on May 28, 1957, at Methodist Hospital, Dallas, Texas, to Dr. John B. Chester and Hilda T. Chester. Mike graduated from South Salem High School Class of 1975 and went on to work as a paramedic in Multnomah County. Mike later attended Portland State University where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Master of Social Work, graduating in 1998. He worked for Multnomah County Health Department, Behavioral Health Services.

Mike enjoyed an adventurous life, living in Hawaii, Missouri, Virginia, Japan, and Colorado before arriving in Salem, OR where he spent his teens, and then moving to Portland, OR. Mike was a talented sportsman who loved swimming, snow skiing, ocean and windsurfing. He also enjoyed music, playing trumpet and guitar, and sound mixing for local bands. Mike was a loving father to his son Matthew Chester, who was his greatest joy.

Mike was preceded in death by his son, Matthew Chester of Portland, OR, and his father, John B. Chester of Salem, OR. He is survived by his mother, Hilda Chester of Salem, OR, sister, Julia Chester of Dallas, TX, brother, John Chester and his wife Paula, of San Francisco, CA, and cousins in Oregon, Texas, and New York. Mike will be greatly missed.
