

Mike passed away Friday August 30, 2024, after a lengthy convalescence related to a spinal condition. He was born March 14, 1951, and lived to be 73 years old. He was preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Norma Schnider, and by a brother Craig, who died shortly after birth. He is survived by numerous family members and friends who are saddened by his passing. We will all miss his positive presence and the courage he demonstrated throughout his life.
Mike was speech and hearing-impaired at birth, conditions that he overcame in his adult life. He graduated from the Oregon School for the Deaf. He was an employee at Salem Hospital for over 35 years, working in the food services department until his retirement eight years ago. Mike was a member of St Vincent’s Catholic Church where he regularly attended mass.
Mike enjoyed bowling, fishing, travelling to the Oregon coast, and visiting relatives in Minnesota and Florida. He was an avid Seattle Seahawks fan, following his favorite team through thick and thin. Mike was a life-long resident of Keizer, where he owned a home until moving to the Bonaventure retirement community, and finally to the Golden Nest care facility in Salem.
He will be missed by his relatives and friends, many of whom were very helpful as he navigated life with his disabilities. Mike set an example by overcoming his impairments to live a full life with humor and a positive outlook, which are traits admired by all of us who knew him.
There will be a graveside service and interment at 2:00 PM September 16, 2024, at the Belcrest Memorial Park cemetery, 1295 Browning Avenue in Salem.
