She was born in Tenville, Iowa on March 2, 1929. Norma Jean graduated from Stephens College (AS) 1949 , University of Minnesota (BS) 1951, California Lutheran University (MA) 1968, University of Southern California (EdD) 1972. Stories of the one-room schoolhouse she attended at age four, her fun times at Stephens College, sorority life at the University of Minnesota, and going back for her doctorate at age 40 to USC made for great stories.
Norma Jean was active at different times in her life with Chi Omega, (AAUW) American Association of University Women, (APA) American Psychological Association, (DAR) Daughters of the Revolution, and various clubs such as Bridge, Dinners of the World, Women Investment Group and theater groups. The last week of her life she reminisced about life growing up, family, her love of education and her research, old friends, the beach, and her love of cooking and decorating.
At 92 she still had her youthful figure, elegant style and an intellect to match Einstein. She touched many lives, and was passionate about being a K-12 teacher, professor, and psychologist. She is survived by her three daughters, Rebecca Jean Bauman and husband Howard, Susan Babbel and Kathleen Branan Garza. Her three grandchildren Jillian Nichole Babbel Mendioro, Colleen Victoria Ojeda, Margarito Joseph Garza IV, and four great-grandchildren Augustus John, Henry Armenio, Halston Suelyn and Paloma Indigo, all who brought much happiness to her in recent years, as she listened to daily stories of their escapades.
