Phillip Patrick Mossholder, a beloved father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 29th, at the age of 80. Born in Mt. Vernon, IL, he was the cherished son of Phillip Otto Mossholder and Mary Elizabeth Smith.
Phillip is survived by his loving sister, Mary Malinda Scott, and his devoted daughters, Alice Mossholder Jarvis and Emily Mossholder Dowell. He took great joy in being a grandfather to Courtney, Abel, Drake, Hannah, Henry, Hazel, and Hailey, who will carry forward his legacy of love and kindness. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter Mariah, whose memory will always be treasured.
As a Vietnam War veteran, Patrick served his country with honor. After his military service, he pursued his education at Oregon State University, earning a degree in economics. His professional journey led him to the State of Oregon, where he worked as a Database Analyst, before spending the remainder of his career at Saif Corporation.
Patrick had a zest for life that extended far beyond his work. He found joy in swimming, biking, and rowing, always eager to embrace the outdoors for a walk or adventure in the canoe he built by hand. Patrick had a special connection with all dogs, treating them as family and always bringing a smile to their faces. He had a talent for bringing unique and often experimental dishes to family gatherings, and while his culinary creations sometimes left much to be desired, his enthusiasm filled our hearts.
Above all, Patrick was a wonderful human being—patient, wise, generous, and infused with a remarkable sense of humor. He had a passion for daily exercise and was known for his love of coffee, often sharing his yearly reading lists, which inspired many around him. His dedication to learning was evident in his impressive Duolingo streak, proving that he was always seeking to grow and connect.
One of his most treasured traditions was hosting our annual Christmas Eve-eve celebration, where he brought family together with warmth and joy, creating memories that will forever hold a special place in our hearts.
The world has lost one of the best men to have walked this earth, but his spirit lives on in the love he shared and the countless lives he touched. Patrick leaves behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, and unwavering support. He will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him.
