Rachel Imagene “Imy” Whiteman Arndt Cooley Hill
April 20, 1938 - January 7, 2019
Born in the rural farmland of Kansas, in the small Quaker community of Timber Creek, near the town of Atlanta, Imy lived a life of care and compassion. Though her path was not always easy, she lived above her circumstances and made the best of each challenge she faced. She moved to Newberg, Oregon in 1959, and then to the Salem area 10 years later where she lived the remainder of her life.
While widely known for her devotional publications in both the Quaker and Free Methodist Community, composition of gospel songs, participation in the New Life Trio, mentoring of single mothers, outreach programs for seniors and a nationwide lecture tour promoting the care of others, it was her one on one personal interaction that most closely defined the positive impression she left on the world.
Imy was a devoted Christian with a love for God that was reflected in every aspect of her life. She passed peacefully into the arms of God on January 7, 2019, surrounded by family and friends. We celebrate the life she lived and the tremendous positive impact on all who had the honor to know her. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, January 14, at 6 p.m. at Peoples Church, 4500 Lancaster Dr. NE, Salem, OR, 97305.
