

Richard LeRoy Lanig died Friday, March 8, 2024 at his home. He was 89 yrs. old. Richard was born to parents William and Nellie, in North Platte, NE, he was the oldest of four children. As a child, his family moved to Dallas, OR, where he grew up. Richard went to and graduated from Dallas High School. While there, he competed on the tennis team. He lettered all four years and finished second in men’s singles in 1950 and men’s doubles in 1953 at the state tournament. After HS, he enlisted in the US Army and served eight years in active and reserve status.
He married his first wife, Marilynn (nee) Gibby in 1955 and together they had three children. He began working for the Oregon Employment Department as a Tax Audit Manager and retired in September,1991 after 30 years of service. He married his second wife Carrie (nee) Bales in 1992. Richard loved the outdoors. He spent many weekends with his brothers Jerry and Larry Lanig, brother-in-law Glen Colburn and best friend Jerry Huntley, hunting deer, duck, pheasant and quail and fishing on the Metolius River and Davis Lake. In his later years, his interests included, watching Hollywood golden era movies, and going to thrift stores, estate sales and garage sales, looking for bargains and treasures. He also enjoyed the company of friends who gathered regularly to have a drink and share stories. He was loved, and will be greatly missed, by many.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents William and Nellie Lanig, brother Larry Lanig, granddaughter Lauren O’Donnell, son Stuart Lanig and wife Carrie Lanig. He is survived by his sister Patricia Colburn, brother Jerry Lanig, daughter Tracey Miller, son Michael Lanig, stepson Robert (Heather) Little, stepdaughter Christy Lebeau, grandchildren Dustin, Morgan, Cameron, Amanda, Madison and Allison, and great-grandchildren Poppy, Beckham, Chase and Cairo.
