Richard "Dick" Clarence Ramsey was born November 14th, 1930 in Camas, Washington to Vern and Nellie Ramsey. He grew up in Camas with his older brother Donald, his younger sister Lois (Darling) and his beloved dog, Snoopy.
After graduating from Camas High school, Dick joined the United States Navy where he served four years during the Korean War. During those years he developed a personal relationship with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. This relationship influenced all his further decisions in life.
Upon completing his time in the Navy, Dick enrolled at Northwest Nazarene College (now Northwest Nazarene University) in Nampa, Idaho. Some of his fondest memories are from his years in Nampa, including joining a traveling singing quartet, serving as student body president, and meeting his dear wife, Doris Miller. Dick and Doris were married on December 28, 1956 during their junior year at NNC and eventually settled in Salem, Oregon where they raised their family.
Dick started his career at the MacLaren School for Boys as a parole officer and continued to dedicate his working years to serving troubled youth while working for the State of Oregon. He earned his Master’s Degree in Social Work from the Oregon College of Education (OCE), what is now Western Oregon University. Before retiring in 1987, he enjoyed being involved with licensing childcare facilities for the Children’s Services Division (CSD).
After retiring, Dick started a yard service for Paradise Island Park and eventually moved there with Doris in 2010. His hobbies included riding his motorcycle on trails and logging roads with friends Dave Doughton and Fred Beuling, camping with his family, fishing, tinkering in his shop, and restoring motorcycles, cars, and scooters all while getting white t-shirts dirty in the process.
Dick is survived by his wife, Doris, son, Rick, daughter-in-law, Joanne, son Rod, daughter-in-law, Angela, son Roger, daughter-in-law, Ann-Marie, and daughter, Pam. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Brad, Breanna, Bryndi, Andrew, Josiah, Jon, Jennifer, Carly and Ethan along with 13 great-grandchildren.
A committal service for Dick will be held Monday, August 2, 2021 from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at Willamette National Cemetery, 11800 SE Mt Scott Blvd, Portland, OR 97086.
