

Robert was born in Portland, Oregon on October 24, 1949. He spent the majority of his life in Oregon except for early childhood years in Indiana. He attended Oregon College of Education and worked at a variety of jobs prior to being employed at the Oregon Legislature in 1973. He retired from his position as Project Manager in 2009.
He participated in the Chemeketans at an early age, engaging in long hikes and mountain climbing. These early experiences fostered his love of wilderness and its preservation. His love of music led to a life as a practicing self-taught musician. He was a talented guitarist, lyricist, and songwriter. His dedication to family history inspired decades of genealogical research, leaving behind volumes of information for future generations.
He is preceded in death by his mother Marylee Ault (McCarter), father Robert Ault and brother Duane.
He is survived by his wife Cheryl, son Robert I. Ault of Milwaukie, daughter Chelsea McGough of Salem and sisters Phyllis Kammler of Salem, Shirlie Poe of Gilchrist, and Maryann Orton of Salem and grandchildren, Keller and Jude.
Bob was known for his strength, honesty and commitment to family. He will be missed.
His memorial service will be at Pringle Hall in Salem, on Saturday October 18, 2025, at 1:00pm.
