Rod was born the third of five children (and only son) to Charles and Tina in Aberdeen, South Dakota. As a young child he moved with his family to Mill Valley, California, for a year before settling in Salem, Oregon. He was a 1957 graduate of North Salem High School.
Rod was a car enthusiast and enjoyed working on his and others performance vehicles. After earning his pilot’s license he flew single engine airplanes. He enjoyed the outdoors especially the mountains and ocean scenery. He spent many hours riding dirt bikes with his sons and later his Harley Davidson motorcycle with his friends. He retired from the Oregon Department of Transportation.
One of Rod’s favorite things to do was attend church. Over the years he made many friends who became like family. He gave his life to Jesus in 1967. He made it his responsibility to make sure his children knew Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior. He spent many hours studying Scripture, praying and learning about God’s plan for mankind.
Rod was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters; Marilyn, Sharon and Marsha and step son Scott. He is survived by wife, Ann, his sister Ginny, three children; daughter Carrie, son Rod Jr. “Chuck” and wife Lita, and son Christian, their mother Shirley; step-daughter Sherri (Mark) and step-daughter-in-law Sharon. He also has six adult grandchildren, six step-grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren from his blended family as well as many nieces and nephews who will all miss him.
