Roger C. Vasend, age 79, unexpectedly passed away August 7, 2022. Roger was the eldest child born to Thore and Marjorie Vasend in Sisseton, South Dakota. He spent his younger school years in a one room schoolhouse and graduated from Sisseton High School.
In 1962, Roger met and married the love of his life, Jo Olson. Beginning their life together in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Roger and Jo soon headed to Oregon where Roger enrolled at OCE to become a teacher. After graduation, he shared his love of history and his country to his many students at McNary High School in Keizer, Oregon.
Roger became interested in building homes and soon started his own business, Vasend Construction. Later, he joined with LeRoy Laack to create Laack and Vasend Realtors. In 1982, Roger was the president of the Salem Home Builders Association. Roger retired from building homes and started developing subdivisions, which he enjoyed.
Roger loved him hometown of Sisseton, South Dakota, and returned each fall to pheasant hunt with his cousins. In his free time, Roger enjoyed swimming, reading, and driving his ATV with his sidekick and special dog, Megs.
Roger is preceded in death by his brother David and sister, Sharon. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Jo Vasend; his brother-in-law, Jerry Olson; his baby sister, Marcia Vasend, special aunts, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
