

Roland Zenophile (Frenchie) LeCompte passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 4, 2012. He was born March 6,1921 in Cornwell, VT and lived there until joining the Civilian Conservation Corps at age 16. He served in the Army during World War II. In 1946 he married Mary Bushman from Wisconsin and moved to Oregon. Together they raised seven children.
Frenchie worked for the Oregon State Parks Department for 33 years, retiring in 1981. The family lived in several of the state parks, including Silver Falls State Park, where he was instrumental in creating a new trail to a waterfall that is now named "Frenchie Falls" in his honor. He also belonged to the Chemeketans, working on the Oregon Coast Trail and climbing Mt Hood. He enjoyed his family, outdoor hikes, gardening, playing cards and his fishing buddies club. He has been a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Salem for many years.
He is survived by his sons, Bernie, David, Ronald, Andrew and Tom LeCompte, daughter Dorothy Williams, daughter-in-law, Kathy LeCompte, son-in-law TK Williams, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. His wife, Mary, and daughter, Vickie, preceded him in death.
The Rosary will be said at 9:30 A.M. followed by the funeral Mass at 10:00 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church Thursday, April 12 with a reception at 11:00. A graveside service will follow at 1:30 PM at Belcrest Memorial Park.
