I am Ronald's nephew, son of his youngest sister Linda.  Unfortunately, I didn't see Ronald very often, though I tried to contact him a couple times in the last year as I was passing through Salem.  I last saw Ron when he and his sister Joyce joined all of Linda's descendants for Christmas many years ago. It was very nice to meet as adults and hear about what is happening in each other's lives.  We really appreciated their efforts to travel and visit with us.

I did not know your dad but I was his sister Linda's sister-in-law. I  am Marianne Appledoorn,  Pete Murray's sister.  It sounds like your dad had a full and accomplished life. You have my condolences and may God give you peace.

My Dad was a unique person with diverse talents and interests. He was a small aircraft pilot and I remember flying in his plane when I was young, and watching from the ground as he did aerobatic tricks in the sky. He also was skilled in building and construction. He added rooms to the basement of our house in King’s Valley, and he built a custom unit for his stereo system which covered an entire wall, as well as other projects. And, he was very good at roller skating.

His early career was in the lumber industry, working at the mill which his father started in King’s Valley. Following this, he moved to Salem and started Pudding River Polled Herefords Ranch. Later, he was involved in building, construction and real estate.

He loved traveling road trips. He started with a camper on the back of his pick-up, then he got a Winnebago small RV, and then moved on to larger RV’s and a boat. He took in sites, sounds, and some fishing all the way from Alaska to the east coast. He also enjoyed walking up and down the Oregon Coast gathering agate rocks and then taking them home where he sent them through his rock polisher.

These are just a few things that I remember and wanted to share about my Dad. Also, as we all grow older, it seems that my husband, Tom, and I have been involved with, and attended more and more funerals and memorial services for family and friends.  You hear the saying “All good things come to an end.” I guess it depends on how you look at it. I would say that it is just the beginning. Life is very short compared to eternity. I believe that those who belong to God and submit to Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior have a future beyond our imagination - there simply is nothing better. I also believe that we as humans cannot judge or guess what happens with each individual person. God knows the heart - nothing is hidden from Him. I pray that all who read/hear this message will be reminded of what really matters in life and in death.
