Rose overcame numerous health challenges in recent years, but lost a final battle with cancer. She was born in Montrose, Colorado to Albert and Effie Spor, and was one of a family of 4 sisters and 2 brothers. She is survived by two brothers George & Walter; children Doyle Allies (Debbie), Cora Slowikowski (Mike), and Greg Allies (Ronda Olsen); along with 7 grandchildren (Trisha, Tyson, Kyle, Meghan, Erik, Kandace, Whitney) and 6 great grandchildren. Rose was preceded in death by her loving husband Loyde, who passed away in 1982 after 29 years of marriage.
Rose and Loyde were married December 27, 1952. Early in their marriage they lived on the Louisiana gulf coast, where their first two children were born. They returned to Montrose, Colorado to help operate the family sheep ranch. Their youngest son was born in Montrose. In 1966 the Allies family relocated to Scio, Oregon to help run a dairy farm owned by Rose’s sister Anita. A year later the family moved to Salem where Loyde pursued his accounting degree and Rose worked for Meier & Frank as a bridal consultant. Rose went on to obtain her real estate broker’s license and worked in the real estate field for several years. After Loyde’s passing, Rose attended Chemeketa Community College where she received a culinary arts degree. Rose’s kitchen skills were appreciated by many over the 25+ years she cooked and managed the kitchens at the Wilson House and Salem Senior Center (now Center 50+).
Rose was known for her fun, independent spirit and sense of adventure. She had a strong and determined work ethic which led to her self-sufficiency, along with several falls from ladders over the years! She loved flowers and always took pride in her yard and rose garden. Rose loved spending time outdoors and at her mountain get-away at Detroit Lake. Recently, she was blessed with a heartwarming BBQ on her lake home deck, which was attended by over 40 friends and family members. Rose loved to dance, and was an accomplished ballroom and square dancer. We know that she is now dancing with the love of her life in heaven.
Rose was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She will be missed for her fun spirit and her work hard-play hard approach to life. It can truly be said she was a satisfied soul.
A celebration of her life will be held at the Center 50+ located at 2615 Portland Rd NE Salem, Or 97301 on August 16th at 4:00 in the afternoon.
Roses’ family would like to thank the staff at Sweet Bye N Bye for the loving care they gave Rose the last few weeks of her life. Hospice Care of the Northwest was also instrumental in providing comfort and support with her final transition.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to Providence Cancer Center/Hood to Coast Run 2013. Twelve of Roses’ family members will run/volunteer in her honor on August 23-24th. Donations in memory can be made on-line to the “West Coasters” team at HTCCharity.com or mailed to 3760 Market St. NE # 365, Salem, OR 97301.
