Shirley Darline (King) Pfau Rose, the oldest of seven children, was born March 29, 1935, to Harry and Beulah King. She graduated from Salem Academy in 1952, and the following year married Ed Pfau. Shirley and Ed had three children and were married for 39 years until he passed away in 1992. Over the years, Shirley and Ed were involved in various churches in which Ed led worship and Shirley played the piano. They also worked together to build several homes and apartment complexes. Ed’s siblings and their families remained close to Shirley and her family even after Ed’s death.
In 1995, Shirley went on a blind date that resulted in her 30-year marriage to Rev. Bob Rose. Shirley was blessed to have had two amazing husbands, both the loves of her life. She and Bob enjoyed years of ministry, travel, camping, and social activities with family and friends. Evenings were often filled with watching sports or a variety of TV programs, and with Shirley’s doing Sudoku puzzles. Morning devotions included singing and listening to familiar gospel songs, her favorites being by Bill and Gloria Gaither. She loved expressing her faith through singing. As dementia set in and continued to take her memory, it was amazing how she still remembered those songs and could sing them. Bob and family prayed she would not suffer the months and years of decline in which she would not know herself or her family and friends. That prayer was answered as she recognized us all up to the day before she passed easily into the hands of the Lord.
The two combined families were blessed with 6 children, 25 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ed Pfau, 1 sister, and 4 grandchildren. She is survived by her husband Bob Rose; 5 siblings: Reva (Rich) Randall, Kim Randall, Bill (Sharon) King, Gordon (Sheryl) King, Rhonda Dossey; 3 children: Ken (Joanne) Pfau, Karen (Ken) Friesen, Karla (Kevin) Wickman; 3 stepsons: Phil (Kristen) Rose, Ken (Rhonda) Rose, Steve (Traci) Rose; 21 grandchildren: Chelsie (Michael), Carli (C.
