Stella was born in Yellville, Arkansas to Horace and Stella Layton. She met and married Robert Oliver Hawes in Azusa, California in December of 1952.
She loved cooking Chinese food and tacos, tending to her flower garden and crocheting scarfs, afghans, and baby blankets for friends and family. Stella also enjoyed dressing-up for a nice lunch or dinner out on the town.
If asked how she would want to be remembered, Stella likely would have answered, for the great love she had for her family. For instance, she visited her sister Jimmie every single week and adored spending time with her nieces and nephews.
Stella is survived by her daughter Debbie Challburg; and her son-in-law Dave Challburg; her grandson Kris Challburg, her grandson Eric Challburg and her granddaughter Maria Fe Challburg; her great grandchildren Morgan, Kolby, Kayla, Meghan, Briar, Haile and Ashley; as well as her great great grandchildren Quinn, Sawyer, Chase, and her niece Lawanna.
Stella was preceded in death by her husband Robert in March of 2002 and her son Bobby in July of 2021.
Plans for a memorial service for Stella will be announced at a later date.
