

On April 3rd, 2025, Susan Charlotte Savage passed away at age 73 in Sublimity, Oregon, after a long battle with cancer. She was born on August 9th, 1951 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Sue attended Woodlake Elementary School, Richfield High School, Oregon State University, and San Diego State University. While attaining her bachelor’s degree at Oregon State University in physical and health education, Sue met and married Kenneth Sandstrom, who was a career Marine. She and her family were stationed in the United States and abroad, including Japan, the Philippines, and Belgium, where she taught physical education and health courses. Sue attended San Diego State University to attain her master’s degree in sports psychology. She coached college tennis, high school tennis, and high school cross country teams as well as tennis camps for youth of all ages. Sue was a nationally ranked tennis player, competing in tennis tournaments at home and abroad. In 2005, Sue married Lloyd Savage. Sue led a life marked by a deep commitment to faith, physical fitness, and a love of children.
Sue found joy in playing tennis, attending church, enjoying nature, and boating on the Puget Sound. She was an avid backpacker, hiker, and runner, often exploring the Cascade, Sierra Nevada, and Oregon Coast Mountain Ranges. Most of all, she loved being a grandma and she was an active part of their lives. She is survived by her daughters, Kimberly Sandstrom and Stacy Sikora; son-in-law, David Sikora; granddaughters, Samantha Sikora, Jennifer Sikora, and Gwen Sandstrom; sister, Peggy Hentschke; brother-in-law, Tom Hentschke; nieces, Kristi Adams, Jennifer Meckley, and Denise Hentschke; and nephew, Ian Hentschke. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Margaret Hageman; her first husband, Kenneth Sandstrom; her second husband, Lloyd Savage; her brother, Harry Hageman; and her sister, Janet Nadig.
The funeral service will be held at Church on the Hill, 2707 Maranatha Court Southeast, Turner, Oregon, 97392 on Saturday, May 17th at 1 pm. Sue’s life and legacy will be honored in a ceremony reflecting her genuine connection to family, faith, and friendships.
